grave tears

What is a Memento Mori?

The Latin translates to “remember to die” - how can we not? For death is inevitable for us all. And remembering that can be one of the most liberating enlightenments of our existence.

For when we remember that Death awaits, we often choose to challenge ourselves to make every single moment worthwhile.

In the world of jewelry, Memento Mori has been practiced for thousands of years. Essentially, it is the act of wearing a talisman that either reminds you of your own precious mortality or honors a loved one that has passed. Very often, a single Memento Mori can serve both purposes.

I created this new piece for myself and one for my mother - shaped like a tear and at its core, something very special. I worked soil from my brother’s grave site into the clay before shaping.

This talisman honors my grief, and keeps my brother close to my heart.
